Executive Committee

Overview

The MFA develops its own internal organizational structure, including electing from among its members five officers: President, Vice

President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Communications Officer. The officers function collectively as an Executive Committee and a liaison on behalf of the MFA to the university administration.

Roster

The Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing the overall functioning of CLAE Shared Governance. This includes cooperative endeavors with CLAE administration, MFA, and UDMPU.

This committee reports to the Executive Board and to the faculty assemble as appropriate. The committee consists of five members, as follows: Note: elected for one-year terms.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare the agenda for all meetings of the Assembly.
  2. Receive communications addressed to the Assembly, including recommendations from the Curriculum & Standards Committee, the Grants & Funds Committee, the Grade Grievance Committee and the Faculty Development Committee, and the Tenure & Promotion Committee–with the exception of recommendations and issues regarding tenure and promotion candidates.
  3. Review recommendations originating in Committees and determines which matters do and do not require a vote of the Assembly as described in Article 7.3 below.
  4. Communicate its recommendations on those matters to the Dean and to the Assembly as described in Article 7.3(b) below for matters which it determines do not require a vote of the Assembly.
  5. Maintain regular liaison with the Deans and other administrators and staff regarding matters relevant to the Assembly. Recommend approvals to the Dean’s office as needed.
  6. Call for special meetings of the CLAE Faculty Assembly if authorized.
  7. Maintain and publicize minutes of all meetings to members of the Assembly.
  8. Convene meetings of the Faculty of CLAE Fall and Winter
  9. Review charges for sub committees.
  10. Conduct elections for CLAE SG, CLAE representatives to MFA, CLAE representatives to McNichols Promotion and Tenure committee, and representatives for Faculty Review Committee.
  11. Manage the proposal and processing of revisions to the Charter.
  12. Review the attached Roles and Responsibilities for CLAE Committees. Note important dates.
  13. Review the University of Detroit Mercy 2019-2024 Strategic Plan.
  14. Check the webpage for the specific Committee to determine information provided is accurate.
  15. Keep the University community informed of committee activities by providing annual reports to be posted to the shared governance website. The secretary of the committee is responsible for sending these documents to claesg@udmercy.edu.
  16. Add special tasks at the discretion of the Committee and/or Dean.
